Product Description

The STIHL MS 261 C-M forestry chainsaw is designed for light to medium tree maintenance work, making it ideal for professionals.

It has an impressive power to weight ratio of 1.6 kg/kW, ensuring that it is light and nimble for long working hours but also has high levels of power for those demanding cuts.

Its cutting ability is further enhanced by the upgraded bar and chain, delivering up to 20% more cutting performance compared to its predecessor.

Another key feature of this chainsaw is its M-Tronic engine management system. This system monitors external conditions such as temperature, altitude, and fuel quality and adjusts to ensure optimal engine performance, speed, and acceleration. Naturally, this reduces the need for manual adjustment and allows the machine to run optimally at all times, greatly increasing productivity.

The STIHL 2-MIX engine offers a 20% reduction in fuel use while also lowering exhaust emissions by up to 50%. This makes it much more economical and environmentally friendly than standard two-stroke engines.

STIHL professional chainsaws are top-of-the-range pieces of equipment. That’s why this MS 261 C-M features:

  • STIHL M-Tronic engine management system (optimised performance for all conditions)
  • An economical and low-emission STIHL 2-MIX engine
  • Advanced combustion technology (higher torque and lower fuel consumption)
  • HD2 filter (traps very fine dust and is easy to clean)
  • Compensator (constant engine power)
  • STIHL ElastoStart (reduces shock when using starter handle)
  • Decompression valve (easy starting)
  • Single-level master control (start, choke, throttle, and stop)
  • Side chain tensioner (removes need to come into contact with the chain)
  • Captive nuts (nuts can’t be lost when changing the cutting attachment)
  • Anti-vibration system (improved comfort and reduced injury risk)
  • Pre-separation air filtration system (longer filter life)
  • Ematic chain lubrication system (lowers oil consumption by up to 50%)
  • Tool-free filler caps
  • Variable-displacement oil pump (precise, demand-based delivery of oil)
  • Carburettor heating (for winter conditions)

Stihl M-Tronic

This fully electronic engine management system adjusts ignition timing and fuel metering in all operating modes. It also takes external conditions such as temperature, altitude and fuel quality into account. It ensures consistent engine performance, constant maximum speed end superb acceleration. M-Tronic makes manual carburettor adjustments unnecessary. Thanks to electronic cold/warm start recognition, now there is only one start position on the combi-lever. The engine starts after fewer pulls and with no change of position, and cen immediately accelerate up to speed - even after a cold start. M-Tronic also remembers the settings from the last time the tool was used. So when external conditions are the same, optimal engine performance is available every time you start up again.

HD2 Filter

The HD2 filter, made from polyethylene filter material, has pores that are up to 70% finer than those of fleexe and polyamide filters and therefore eliminates even the finest dust. In addition, it repels oil and water and is therefore very easy to clean. The PET filter cartridge can be removed and inserted without tools.

Decompression valve

The decompression valve is part of the easy starting system. The valve should be pressed before starting to reduce the compression pressure when starting, as well as reducing the effort needed to pull the starter rope. The decompression valve is semi-automatic; it must be pressed manually before starting, but then closes automatically.

Features in depth

Pre-separation air filtration system

STIHL long-life air filtration systems with pre- separation achieve perceptibly longer filter life compared with conventional filter systems. Air drawn in is swirled. The larger, heavier particles are ejected. The pre-cleaned air is routed to the air filter via the pre-separator duct.

Variable-displacement oil pump

Allows a precise, demand-based delivery of oil. It's possible to reduce oil production by up to 50% in the E position. For very long cutting attachments or very dry wood, an additional volume of oil can be added by the user. similar to illustration.

Stihl 2-mix engine

The Stihl 2-mix engine specially desgined for the new generation of hedge trimmer combines low consumption and emissions with low weight and excellent acceleration. There are also always sufficient power reserves for cutting thicker shrubs.

Compensator

This controller in the carburettor prevents the fuel-air mixture getting richer as the air filter becomes clogged. The correct quantity of fuel is delivered to the carburettor depending on the quantity of air passing through the air filter. This keeps the fuel/air ratio in the combustion mixture constant and hence also the engine power. The filter doesn't need to be cleaned until an appreciable drop in power occurs.

Side chain tensioner

You can tension the chain quickly with the easily accessible chain tensioner on the side of the machine.

Advanced combustion technology

Four overflow channels swirl the fuel-air mix before ignition, allowing for optimum combustion and highly efficient performance. The result is lower fuel consumption and high torque across broad rpm range.
